Then, and Now
  This page will aim to show you pictures of the preserved vehicles that are around today in their old working life. I am particularly interested in all pictures of vintage vehicles, and its with great thanks to Chris Stanley for helping me get started with the section.

RCL2223
Seen here in its old working life at Aldgate, RCL2223 blinded for Greenline route 721 sits ready for another journey. RCL2223 is now with British Airways and can often be seen parked up around Heathrow

Here is RCL2223 in the present day, parked up amongst a bunch of Scania Omnicity's at Heathrow Airport.

RT1431
Pictured at Brighton on the 4th May 1969 is RT1431. This bus is pictured and blinded for route 183 to Pinner. RT1431 is a Craven Bodied RT which is now preserved by Ensignbus and was last seen helping out on the shuttle service at Cobham Open day 2006.

Here is RT1431, working on the last day of crew operation of route 38 in London.

RT3062
Seen here, at Fulwell on the 7th September 1969 is RT3062. This bus is a Saunders bodied RT, with roofbox and is now preserved by Blue Triangle.

Here is RT3062 today, seen on the 23rd December 2005 on a special working on route 4.

RM46
RM46, seen at Chiswick Open day 1980. The registration number of this vehicle, VLT46 is now on a Go Ahead Tow Truck.

VLT46 - Stage 2
VLT46 (the registration of RM46) in its second stage, graced an MCW metrobus. Its seen here in 1992 at Victoria. VLT46 is now on a London General Tow Truck (picture to appear soon)

RCL2234
RCL2234, also seen at Aldgate Bus Station in 1965. This bus is preserved at a Birmingham Museum.

TD130 - THEN
TD130 is a Leyland Tiger PS1. Its seen here on the 27th October 1968 at Reading. It is now preserved with a Bristol group who are restoring this bus. (Updated)

Unforunately, although we know this a recent photo, we have no specific details of time or loaction.

RT4497
RT4497, also pictured at Aldgate on route 723A to Grays on 26th March 1964. This vehicle is now privately preserved.

G351
Cobham's latest restoration project is Guy Arab G351. It's seen here amongst other vehicles at Crystal Palace Train Yard, 13 October 1968.

And here is G351 (3rd from left) amongst a bunch of other restored buses at Cobham Open Day 2006.

STL2692 - THEN
Here is STL2692 also at Crystal palace train yard on the 13th October 1968. (Updated)

STL2692 - NOW
Seen at Gravesend Rally 2006.

RMC4
Prototype RMC4 (SLT59) seen here on 2nd February 1964 at Aldgate. Aldgate seems to have been an ideal place to catch Greenline Routemasters! This particular picture shows RMC4 on route 720, which ran from Aldgate to Bishops Stortford.

RM1
What would this page be without the first one! Here is RM1 (SLT56) at West Ham Bus garage on the 1st June 1960.

And here is RM1 today, well last Sunday actually (14 May 2006) at Slough Running Day. The vehicle is wonderfully preserved and maintained by the London Transport Museum.

RT190 - THEN
(Update) Here is an older shot of RT190 at West ham garage in 1969.

RT190 - NOW
Seen at Green Park in October 2005. This bus was used on the last day of crew operation on route 38. Note the body change - evident by the roofbox.

T792 - THEN
Also at Brighton on the same day as above, is T792. It is preserved by Mr John Herting, Chorleywood. (Updated)

RT44
Another RT preserved RT44 also seen at Brighton. This vehicle is preserved by Mr D Wood of Marchwood, Hants.

RT50 1989
A line up of RT's at RT50, Covent Garden on the 6th August 1989. From right to left is RTW185, RT172, RT3254 and RT113. RT172 is preserved by Mr A Roskoss of Huddersfield, RT3254 is preserved by Mr C Wills or Stevenage, RT113 is preserved in Southfields (london). All are still making trips - RTW185, RT113 and RT3254 seen at Cobham 2006.

RT8
This more a case of now rather than then. RT8 has been in America for over 40 years, but now its back where it belongs - In the UK and even better, in the hands of Ensignbus who are refurbishing this bus. This picture shows the bus in current condition on April 10th 2006.

RTL554
Also seen at RT50, Finsbury Park is RTL554 now preserved in York by Mr. I. Macbeth.

Timebus at RM50
This pic is more NOW rather than then, but its a worthy picture to have! Seen at RM50 is a whole bunch of routemasters preserved by Timebus, alongside Blue Triangle's RML900. In shot is RM1871 with RML2310 behind, and just behind that is one of two opentop routemasters that timebus have in the form of RM450.

RCL2220 & RCL2226
Here is a picture of RCL2220 and RCL2226. RCL2220 is preserved by Ensignbus and is used at some rallies, but mainly private hire work.

And here is RCL2220 now. Preserved by Ensignbus and seen here on the special workings day on route 159, 8th December 2005, The day before the last day of crew operation in London. Ensignbus have also recently taken on board RCL2226.

HYM768
Q Class Trolleybus 1768 (reg no. HYM768) seen here at Stonebridge park depot. This bus is now preserved at the London Transport museum, Covent Garden.

RLH61
RLH61 seen here at Clapton in 1968. It's showing route 178, terminating at Clapton Pond.

And here is RLH61, 38 years later, at the Hackney Marshes Running day, seen here at Clapton Pond, close to where the old picture was taken. This bus is now preserved by Ensignbus.

RLH23
Here is RLH23 seen at Stonebridge Park depot, 8th Feb 1970.

And here is RLH23 now, Also seen at Hackney Marshes running day in 2006, and it looks, sounds and runs as good as new! This bus is now preserved by Timebus.

RM9
Here is RM9, seen at Slough, also seen on the 8th February 1970.

And here is RM9 today. Seen here at Wisley Airfield on 4th April 2006, it is now in the hands of London General/London Central's Private hire department.

RM6
Here is RM6 at Walthamstow on the 5th October 1968.

RML2394

RML3
RML3, seen here on the 21st February 1965 at West Ham Garage. This bus is preserved and was seen at Cobham open day on the 477 shuttle route, 4th April 2006.

And here is RML3 today, Preserved at Cobham musuem and seen here on the 18th June 2006 on Cobham Museum's Nostalgia day.

Q83
Here is Q83, which is now preserved at Cobham Museum. This photo was taken on the 14th March 1970 at Stonebridge park depot.

TD95
Seen at the same place and time as Q83 above. These 2 buses where photographed prior to them going to Cobham Bus Museum.

So here is TD95 today, fully restored by Cobham Museum, and seen running in service on a recreation of route 236 at Hackney Marshes running day 2006. It's seen here at Dalston Garage - which doesn't exist anymore!

RF486
Here is RF486 on the 1st February 1970 on route 285 to Kingston.

And here is RF486, at Clapton Pond, taking part in the Hackney Marshes running day 2006.

And here is RM1224 today. Seen here on in February 2006 at Crystal Palace, this bus joined another 20 or so Routemasters to celebrate 50 years of this superb vehicle.

RF370 - THEN
NEW!! - Here is RF370 in all its glory on the last night of route 202 - 25 October 1968. The bus is just pulling away from the stop in Hawkstone road just passed Surrey Docks station opposite southwark park. Buses no longer use this road due to the opening of Canada Water Station. Many local routes were diverted to serve the new station and away from once familiar roads. Added info supplied by Paul Brophy
